Tower 15/16 Becomes Home to National Quality Improvement Effort
BWH has been selected as a pilot site for the national Transforming Care at
the Bedside (TCAB) project, which is focused on creating innovative solutions
to improve the patient and provider experience. BWH is the only Boston hospital
and one of only thirteen hospitals nationwide to be chosen for this program, sponsored
by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and funded by a grant from the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation.
The project will involve orthopedic patients and take place on Tower 16AB and
15CD, under the auspices of team leaders John Ready MD, a senior BWH orthopedic
surgeon, and Jacinta Telesford-Ximba, RN, nurse manager for 16AB. Clinical sponsors
for the project include Orthopedics Chairman Thomas Thornhill, MD and Barbara
Bauman, RN, director of Surgical Nursing. This innovative project is being jointly
coordinated by the BW/F Center for Clinical Excellence and Patient Care Services.
The project aims to improve the quality, safety and reliability of care delivery;
make the patient care experience more patient-centered; enhance staff satisfaction
and teamwork; and create more efficient work and patient flow processes.
